Crashpad Trailer by Velostatt. Prototype, stainless steel. | | more pics below |
| Every once in a while, Mani Grau saw himself in the situation where he wanted to go boulder* on his bike. As crashpads* are bulky and not a good choice to be carried on your back on a bike (wind resistance, weight etc), Mani had to construct his own trailer.
Also, the drawbar had to be demountable so that you can carry trailer and crashpad through the woods - or get on board of french high speed trains TGV to get to bouldering dream destination Fontainebleau...
The solution: a fillet brazed frame made from stainless steel tubing, light, small and failsafe wheels and a drawbar demountable by means of an S & S coupler.
Also the hitch is our own creation: parts of the Radical Design (Cyclone) and Burley hitches, joined to the drawbar by a custom made turned part. The last to obtain 360° rotational liberty. The Radical Design solution where this is reached by a plastic threading not completely threaded to its stop and thus being free to turn, seemed rather rustic than radical to us.
The trailer as shown is a prototype and not for sale, we can custom build it for you though. Price for a single piece will probably be around CHF 1000.- to 1200.-.
* Bouldering is a sports climbing discipline, performed at heights where you should be able to jump if you don't succeed your go. As you don't want to be insured while jumping or falling involuntarily, so-called crashpads are used to absorb the shock. | | Article N°: 1000243 | Origin: CH | | |
